Only 6 km north of Ishango, in the Semliki Valley, a much older site has been
spotted: the Katanda site. Several barbed points made out of bone have been found
here, which are very similar to those excavated from Ishango.
Even if these two sites are only 6 km apart, more than 60 000 years
separate them! Katanda is dated to about 90 000 years ago and would have
been in the Middle Stone Age.
Like the site of Ishango, the site of Katanda should continue with excavations
because the remains that have been discovered so far are unique!
