Discovered in 1959 in the same stratigraphic layer as the first, this second
stick has never been published. This discovery raises new questions.
Is it a tool?
It would seem that it is also the handle of a tool. But in this case,
the tool is not complete, none of the quartz is preserved.
And what do its notches tell us?
Jean de Heinzelin also made a study of this second stick but didn’t publish
this. He counted 90 notches, some described as "major" and other "minor",
according to their length. From his observations, Heinzelin assumed the existence
of counting in the base numbers of 6 and 10 at Ishango.
